Unit 55: Task 1

Mind Map

Title: Red vs Blue

Characters: The characters are one red and one blue, the weapons I might use are swords, pistols, tasers and a mini gun as a special weapon.

Background: The different types of backgrounds that I could use are: Warehouse, an alley in a street, an abandoned hospital or maybe on a bridge with crashed vehicles.

Story line: The story starts of with 2 characters one on the red team and one on the blue team, their families have hated each other for years because one family betrayed the other by killing a family member.

The layout of this mood board is how I am going to present my work.

With this stickman animation it gives me a good idea how I can turn it into a graphic novel because I don’t think that there are any graphic novels out there that have stickmen fighting. This is why I think it is a good idea to challenge that and be one of the first.

A lot of stickmen fighting animations don’t really have a story line to it, so they can just concerntrate on effects, but my project is on drawing it as a graphics novel.

This is an example of an animation with out a story line where there are just characters that are falling off a cliff in the most brutal way possible which is why its entertaining.

Here is an example of a stickman graphic novel called Stickman Odyssey, which isn’t 2 characters fighting but its the one of the few character graphic novels out there.

These are a few armor designs from the internet that I might use to design my own robotic armor, that will occur when the story is about half way through they will get upgraded armor which will increase their fighting ability.

These are a few weapons that I might include to my graphic novel, the red character will be the one with a gun and the right one will be a ninja that will have the samurai sword and these pictures will help me draw them in.

The best graphic style for narrative for this type of story is graphic novel, mainly because it has a lot of violence so the target audience will mainly be 16+ and normally comic books and comic stripes are aimed at children when I am going for a more adult approach.

Legal and Ethical constraints

Legal: The legal things that I will be worried about are libel but in the form of text, Copyright, age restriction. The age restriction will be 16+ since there will be a lot of violence in this graphic novel.

Ethical: The ethical things that I am going to be worried about are: Not to discriminate or be racist to any type of ethnic groups like different types of religion or race I also need to make sure that the graphics are not offensive in any way.

These are sketches of what my main characters are going to look like. The pair that I am going to use are the 2 character on the right because they look a lot more detailed then the ones on the left.

These are the weapons that the 2 characters are going to use, The red character is going to have 2 samurai swords and the blue character is going to have 2 pistols.

This is the armor set that I am going to use for the red character and the blue character, the armor will apply when about half way through the graphic novel when the characters are both low about a quarter bar left they will put on the armor which will last about 5 mins in their time.

pistol holder 2

This is what my characters looks like when they are holding their weapons.

Screen Shot 2017-09-22 at 13.39.43

I decided to make a pistol holder for the blue character so he can hold his pistols.

Target Audience

The people that I will be aiming for to be my target audience are mainly teenagers at the age of 16-18. This is because their generation they are more into violence which is what this graphic novel is mainly about, also I chose a graphic novel instead of things like comic books or comic stripes is because they are more aimed at children, so violence is limited and the language is more child friendly, instead of  having a deep and dark story they are more happy or funny. This story heads more to the deep and dark side. I am also going to make this graphic novel known world wide so I am going to have different language translations.

quantity (5)quantity (6)quantity (1)quantity (2)quantity (3)quantity (4)

quantity (7)

Here I made a calculation of how much the graphic novel will cost. If I printed out 25,000 of them it will cost up to $6,799.82 which is 5152.90 in British pounds which is a lot of money but if I had one graphic novel for £17 and they all sold out that would be worth £425,000 but there are other things you will have to pay for like software, equipment and maybe employees to do the work for you if you don’t have the skill. The likely hood of the graphic novel getting sold out is not very likely if you are a new to the business, also it is very risky because you could lose all your money from people not wanting to buy your graphic novel.

Colour Pallet

colour pallet 2

The main colours in my graphic novel are going to be Red, Blue, Green and Grey. I am probably going to use the darker versions of the colours because the story between the red and blue characters is dark and there is nothing happy to it, it is just violence. Also the other reason is because bright colours distract people from the main scene and I want people to look at what is happening to the characters rather then what is going on around them, this will help them understand what is going on with the story.

Font sheet 1

The font sheet that I am going for is the 3rd one. The reason for this is because it looks sharp and a lot like a font that would be in a game like Mortal Combat which gives it that fighting edge. I also like it because it gets people interested in the text rather then using just a plane old font, this makes it interesting and more action like. Instead of having curved lines its sharp strait lines which makes it look like a sword slash which fits in really well with the genre of my graphic novel.

Codes of practice

Narrative structure: My story structure is a lot different then a basic story structure which is beginning middle and end. The first pannel it starts of as 2 bodies dead on the floor, Then theres a flash back to the beginning of the story, after that it shows the blue character in a car chasing the red character, then there are about 4/6 pannels where they are just constantly fighting, the last few is them talking to each other about their past and why they are fighting and the last pannel they kill each other at the same time.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 10.17.50.png

I am going to publish this this in comic book stores, online and so people can read it on kindles. Also I am going to put on the front page that somethings in the graphic noel might be offensive and suggest that if they are sensitive that they shouldn’t read it, the reason for this is because the story line might offend people who have had the same situation and it will avoid people complaining about it.

Personal/ Clearance

For the personal I won’t need to worry about this since I am not using anyone as an example for a pose so I can draw it into my graphic novel so I won’t need any clearance on using the person as a reference. I will need clearance on using pictures of the internet that I will take to use as a way to draw a certain way the legs are positioned while they are running. Other then that I will not need to worry about clearance or personal.

Story board

Panel 1

Here is where it starts at the end showing that they are both dead after a huge fight.

Panel 2

pannel 1

In this panel is where the guy is driving to his location but stumbles across an enemy

Panel 3

In this panel he gets out of the car and finds out that the enemy is blocking his way on a bridge.

Panel 4

here is where they both stare at each other angrily because they have hated each other since one betrayed the other.

There will be no script to this because they hate each other so much that they instantly start fighting, I will however add words like BOOM, POW, BANG in there so that it makes it a lot easier to imagine sound effects like it is if they were watching a film.
